About your team

At MOIA’s payment teams we focus on providing a smooth and secure payment experience to our customers while ensuring compliance with the law. To achieve these goals, we build and run software which interacts with our payment service providers, supports diverse payment method options, generates, and delivers various financial documents, manages discount vouchers, automates accounting, and allows the passengers to show their appreciation for our drivers by tipping them after the ride. We operate software, which is critical to support MOIA’s day-to-day operations, as well as develop new features aiming to make the customer experience even better. The payment backend comprises multiple reactive microservices written entirely in Scala that are integrated in a wider polyglot distributed system. Therefore, we take great care that our technical design and system architecture are scalable and resilient. Due to the nature of our domain, we also put in extra effort to ensure the correctness and quality of our software and we are not afraid to take full ownership of our products – from inception through development to ensuring smooth operation. 

We are a passionate cross-functional team of software engineers and are looking for you - an experienced Backend Software Engineer focused on creating value for customers. What you will do

  • Interact with other product teams, understand and support their needs for payment solutions both on the technical and requirements level 
  • Apply cutting edge software techniques to solve the complexities of the payment world and make it as smooth and secure as possible for our customers 
  • Own together with your teammates a critical part of the company’s distributed system from the infrastructure to the customer experience level 
  • Become an active member of MOIA's engineering community, educate and mentor your less experienced colleagues, help continuously evolve our engineering practices 

What will help you to fulfil your role


  • have experience with or a strong interest in developing software in Scala in a functional programming style.
  • enjoy solving challenges in distributed systems.
  • have experience with AWS or a similar cloud environment
  • have experience or interest in Kubernetes 
  • follow DevOps best practices and believe in automated testing, infrastructure as code, continuous deployment, and monitoring
  • are keen to receive and give feedback in pairing and code review sessions
  • have a strong sense of ownership and are eager to contribute from day one
  • have a customer-driven mindset
  • communicate fluently in English
